Make sure that the resume formats you use reflects the tone you are attempting to set; that of an educated skilled professional that is willing to do whatever is required by the company in order to do the job in the prescribed manner and as competently as possible. Make sure that the resume formats allow you to get in all of your pertinent information. You need a resume cover sheet and you need the actual resume. Be sure to sum up why you feel this is the job for you and why you are the person for this job. Dont forget to run the spell and grammar check you need to put your best foot forward. And utilize the resume formats available on the Internet; there are some great templates and examples that can be very helpful to you. Searching for free resume formats on any of the search engines can yield 1000s of results - which can lead to endless confusion when writing a resume. Theres no need to be confused. Generally speaking there are only 3-basic resume writing formats used by all job seekers. New formats are starting to attract some attention but 99% of all the resumes submitted are in one of the 3 basic styles or formats. PDF RESUME This type of resume is delivered to the employer in PDF format (Portable Document Format). You write your resume in Microsoft Word or some other word processing program format it convert it to PDF and save it. The file can be sent by email as an attachment. The employer needs to have a PDF viewer or Adobe Acrobat in order to view it. Sometimes this can pose a problem because of computer viruses. People are wary about opening attachments to emails. If the employer wants you to submit your resume by this method go ahead and do it. More than likely they have software that can detect viruses in attachments. WEB PAGE Some people use a single web page to display their resume. You have your own personal website.
There are a number of situations in which this resume format works well such as: When youre trying to make a career change. (You can list your relevant skills and experience up front then any relevant education. Next list your job history but only include the relevant duties performed at each. When you have done almost the same duties everywhere youve worked. (Listing the same duties over and over under each employer is redundant. Instead you can highlight your most significant skills and experience up front along with any special awards or achievements. Then list only company-specific duties under each employer. Tips for using this resume format. Take the tips listed above for each of the other formats and incorporate them. Also keep in concise and interesting. Avoid boring job descriptions.
