Obviously there is a lot of competition out there from other job seekers vying for the same position. Youll need to start your resume writing by deciding on a format. There are essentially 3 different resume formats: the chronological resume the functional resume and the combination resume. Each has its advantages and disadvantages which is explained below. The Chronological Resume Format The chronological resume format is the most common and the one that people are most familiar with. In the chronological format each of your jobs and corresponding descriptions of responsibilities are listed in chronological order starting with the most recent job. Dates of each job are included on the resume and it usually includes a career objective section skills & attributes section or profile section and an education section.

The purpose of your resume is to market your services to employers. Resume format and resume style can tell the employer a lot about your communication and organization skills. Then it is your skill to clear the personal interview and grab the desired job. When applying for the job it is necessary to write a quality resume.
Not all of us have that strong work history displaying a clear career path. For many reasons including the unavailability of the right job many of us have taken a job outside of what would be considered a normal career path. If this applies to you then you may be more interested in the next format. Functional Resume The functional resume places a heavy emphasis on skills and abilities. If you have a very strong skill-set however you lack a solid work history you may want to consider the functional format. By drawing the employers attention to your strong set of relevant skills your lack of a solid work history becomes of secondary importance. Did you notice I said relevant skills? By relevant I mean of course those skills that directly apply to the job position the employer is trying to fill.
