Usually the most common job resume format used is the chronological format. This means your education and employment history is listed using a reverse chronological order. The most recent activity you have done should be the first one listed. Section headings using this format should be highlighted in bold so that employers can tick them off easily. Another job resume format that people can utilize especially if you have a lot of experiences is the one that concentrates on the different skills that you have done coupled with the appropriate job experiences. Keep in mind that whatever style of job resume format that you use make sure to include certain information such as your contact information an objective your educational attainment the necessary skills you have your achievements and your employment history. Are you interested in learning how to write a resume? Do you know the best resume writing format for your resume? There are many different resume writing formats to choose from and we will be discussing the 2 most popular. The most COMMON resume writing format is whats called the "professional" or "chronological" format. This resume format basically consists of a chronological order of your previous employment.
The format you use to write your resume will depend on a number of factors. You want the style that works best for your particular situation and clearly presents your skills & qualifications to the employer. Chronological Resume Format is very popular with the majority of employers. However other styles are gaining in popularity. It is an excellent format for those whove had a consistent work history and are seeking employment in the same career field or industry. It is not a good style to use if you are a new graduate have gaps in employment or are a career changer. Functional Resume Format focuses on highlighting your skills accomplishments and experience with little or no attention to specific dates. It emphasizes your skills and/or functions that are directly related to the job qualifications. It is a good resume for career changers graduates and new people entering the job market. It is not as popular with employers as gaps in employment are not as noticeable. The Combination Resume Format is just what it sounds like. It is a combination of whats good about a chronological and functional resume molded together to present your skills & qualifications to an employer. This format works very well for many job seekers and is gaining in popularity among employers. So remember when looking for free resume formats Keep It Simple and boil it down to the three mentioned above to structure your winning resume.
The functional resume format is an effective way to reduce the number of pages that an employer will have to read and will make your application more impactful. The disadvantage to this resume format is that recruiters dont like it. They get suspicious about your job history if no dates are included and may toss it in the garbage if it raises too many questions. Although at one time I used a functional resume because in my chronological resume I had gaps in my work history that I suspected were keeping the phone from ringing with interview requests. I changed the format from chronological to functional and the phone started to ring! So for the best of both worlds you might want to try the combination resume if youve got gaps in your work history or have been out of the workforce for a while.
