When the reader can understand what you are attempting to convey it is easier for them to evaluate your potential ability to do the job. Your resume formats should include a good font. Do not choose something because you think it gives the resume more personality or makes it more personal. Choose something that is easy to read and will not cause eyestrain. You need to have the opportunity to capture the reader with your words. Keep in mind that if you are using boxes lines or shading in your resume formats that they can be very confusing if they are not used properly. The most effective use for these types of graphics is to delineate the sections of your resume such as your experience or your educational background. Keep in mind that your resume formats should always maintain a professional air. Certainly the resume you submit does not have to adhere to resume formats that one would use for an executive position for a Fortune 50 company if you are applying for a position in customer service at a cell phone company but it still must show that you are committed to being professional in your role as an employee of their company.
Finally never let your resume be determined by resume formats. It is also very important to avoid omitting or including information just because the format requires this information. Doing this can cause you to miss out on a good opportunity because there is missing information or extraneous information. When you are compiling your resume and considering resume formats it is important that you keep your resume as neat and as simple to read as possible. Some people think that it is more important to make your resume stand out so they choose to use graphics to generate some interest. Quite often this can actually backfire and the resume that looks less professional may be the first to hit the trashcan. It is in your best interest to keep resume formats clean and professional. You want to invite the employer to read the resume so keep your resume formats reader friendly. Use wide margins because thin margins and long long sentences can cause the reader to loose their train of thought and they can loose interest. Certainly you need to be professional but do not cause the reader to need a dictionary to follow what you are saying and do not use professional jargon.
Obviously there is a lot of competition out there from other job seekers vying for the same position. Youll need to start your resume writing by deciding on a format. The Chronological Resume Format The chronological resume format is the most common and the one that people are most familiar with. Dates of each job are included on the resume and it usually includes a career objective section skills & attributes section or profile section and an education section.
The most recent experience or educational qualification is listed first followed by the next recent details. With this format the employer gets to know your level of expertise. Functional Resume Functional resume format is the one that mainly focuses on your skills rather than your experience. This format is most suitable for the people with changing careers or large gaps in their employment history. Hybrid Resume The hybrid format is the combination of chronological format and the functional format. In this resume format skills are listed before your employment details.
