When the reader can understand what you are attempting to convey it is easier for them to evaluate your potential ability to do the job. Your resume formats should include a good font. Do not choose something because you think it gives the resume more personality or makes it more personal. Choose something that is easy to read and will not cause eyestrain. You need to have the opportunity to capture the reader with your words. Keep in mind that if you are using boxes lines or shading in your resume formats that they can be very confusing if they are not used properly. The most effective use for these types of graphics is to delineate the sections of your resume such as your experience or your educational background. Keep in mind that your resume formats should always maintain a professional air. Certainly the resume you submit does not have to adhere to resume formats that one would use for an executive position for a Fortune 50 company if you are applying for a position in customer service at a cell phone company but it still must show that you are committed to being professional in your role as an employee of their company.
When you search for job openings online some companies will have on their websites which online resume format is acceptable. If you dont know which format is acceptable to a certain company call them and ask. The worst thing you can do is send an online resume in the wrong format and have it ignored. PLAIN TEXT RESUME This format is also referred to as ASCII. Many companies used to accept this type of resume a few years ago when searching for a job on the internet was still new. When this format is used the resume is written in plain text with no formatting. The resume is sent in an email to the employer. Unfortunately because the resume is unformatted it looks pretty ugly and is hard to read. With the advancements in word processing and email functions companies are turning towards more professional looking online resume formats.
If you an entry-level candidate you can have a one page neatly typed compact resume. For professionals with a lot of experience a two or three page resume can greatly impress employers. Choice of Fonts Keep the font of your resume simple. Classic fonts such as Times New Roman and Arial are recognized by nearly all computers. If you use other font styles there will be a risk that the employers computer does not support the particular font. Also if it is too fancy it might turn off the employer. Remember that ... The most important information will be listed on the top of the resume as it is the first to catch the employers eye. In the middle is the part which will get briefly scanned. The bottom part of the resume will not get much attention unless you get the interview. Your resume structure should take this into account.
