PDF RESUME This type of resume is delivered to the employer in PDF format (Portable Document Format). You write your resume in Microsoft Word or some other word processing program format it convert it to PDF and save it. The file can be sent by email as an attachment. The employer needs to have a PDF viewer or Adobe Acrobat in order to view it. Sometimes this can pose a problem because of computer viruses. People are wary about opening attachments to emails. If the employer wants you to submit your resume by this method go ahead and do it. More than likely they have software that can detect viruses in attachments. WEB PAGE Some people use a single web page to display their resume. You have your own personal website.
You can do this in your cover letter. A chronological resume format works best when you have acquired some professional experience and not fresh out from college. Functional Resume Format If you are fresh out of school and have no substantial professional experience to talk of it is best to use a functional resume format. This type of resume format puts more focus on your qualifications and skills rather than your employment and professional history. So rather than listing positions held in reverse order you will be listing out key competencies that are required and relevant to the role. An example could be "People Management" or "Customer Relations". Then proceed to enumerate tasks or duties you performed whether at school part time jobs or at community projects that help to reinforce this skill.
For example in Asian countries Biodata is prominently used in the hiring process. The biodata format (shorter term for biographical data) is usually a one page document containing the basic information about a job applicant. The provided information in this document is the individual s personal data education employment history and character references with lesser details compared to the resume or CV. Biodata is commonly used in the business world though most companies and organizations prefer the resume or CV. This is because these documents better capture the knowledge skills and abilities of a prospective applicant over the biodata which provides limited information about an applicant. Don t however mistake the Biodata format as being irrelevant or outdated because as stated previously in some countries especially those found in Asia the purpose of the biodata is the same as that to a resume.
