Not all of us have that strong work history displaying a clear career path. For many reasons including the unavailability of the right job many of us have taken a job outside of what would be considered a normal career path. If this applies to you then you may be more interested in the next format. Functional Resume The functional resume places a heavy emphasis on skills and abilities. If you have a very strong skill-set however you lack a solid work history you may want to consider the functional format. By drawing the employers attention to your strong set of relevant skills your lack of a solid work history becomes of secondary importance. Did you notice I said relevant skills? By relevant I mean of course those skills that directly apply to the job position the employer is trying to fill.
Know how to make effective use of tabs and spaces. Understand that the employer might be reading your resume using another word processor. Consider this when formatting your resume or otherwise he will be reading a disoriented jumble of content. That is why it is best to use basic fonts styles spacing and markers. After you have finished modifying the resume format to your satisfaction get a print out. Dont use colored papers. Use a white and clean paper. Ensure that the resume format from the print-out appears exactly like the one set in your computer - correct margins font styles and spacing. Make good use of white space. Avoid crowding the contents on one side while leaving another side with plenty of white space. It wont appear attractive.
Perhaps the format most people see most often is the chronological format for resumes. This format is essentially a timeline where previous work experience is listed according to when it occurred. You can use either chronological order or reverse chronological order on your resume but most people opt for reverse chronological. This type of format is so popular because it lends itself well to many industries and positions. Of all of the resume formats available the chronological one offers the ability to show how you have progressed in your career. This is because if you have worked your way up from a junior position to a senior management position it will be obvious with this format because the potential employer will see the advancement. For some people the functional format may be the best alternative. In particular those who have held a number of different jobs and cannot demonstrate longevity may opt for the functional format because it shifts the focus away from this fact and more towards the type of work the job seeker has done instead of where and when this work was done. In general any of the resume formats can work well for you as long as you also make sure the information on your resume is well written. It certainly goes without saying that care should be taken to avoid mistakes in grammar or spelling.
The Combination Resume Format The combination resume as its name implies combines the best of both the chronological resume and the functional resume. A functional resume format is followed but the job dates are included. The employer is primarily interested in knowing what value you can bring to the company so that if your first page (or the first 2/3rds) of your resume can effectively show what value you bring to the company then any gaps may be overlooked in favour of bringing you in for an interview. A resume is basically a summary of your past employment history achievements skills educational attainments and competencies acquired through the years. Your resume is your sales letter to a prospective employer to tell them that you are the best candidate for the role.
Usually Biodata is collected in a fill in form. The information that is collected from a Biodata form is the first impression a recruiter or company sees of a potential employee and the first chance the potential employee has to land the ever important interview. The Biodata form is a collection of questions that retrieves information about that person s life and work experiences. The form allows a person to express their opinions beliefs and values. This gives recruiters and potential employers and idea of what type of personality one has based on prior behaviour. Biodata also gives an idea of what employees want to achieve in the future. What future job aspirations they have and where they see themselves.
